How to fix "ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8"" in Excel, Google Sheets, databases

ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8"

What this error means

The file is in a different encoding (often Windows-1252) and contains accented characters.

Why it happens

  • Exported from older Excel or Windows software
  • Files merged from different sources

How to fix it

  1. Upload it here: we convert every character to proper UTF-8 while keeping valid text untouched

About CSV file files

CSV is plain text: one row per line, values separated by commas. Most CSV "errors" are encoding problems (accents turning into garbage), stray NULL bytes, or rows with the wrong number of columns.
